Sedation Dentistry

Are you uncomfortable, nervous or even downright TERRIFIED of going to the dentist? Have you put off necessary dental care because of your feelings? Don’t worry. You are not alone. Nearly 30% of our population avoids going to the dentist due to fear. In our personal experience, that percentage is really closer to 50% if you include feelings of anxiety as the culprit for avoiding needed care.

At Stiehl Dental, our patients can choose “Sedation Dentistry” as a safe, non-judgmental, pain-free way to get the dental care they need.

"If there was a way, with sedation, that our patients could have their treatment accomplished in minimal visits, with no pain and little memory of this experience, would this be more encouraging?"

Who is a Candidate?

It is a well known fact that many people are often afraid to tell anyone about their fear, so they feel isolated. Some of the issues you may be facing are issues we can help through Sedation Dentistry:

What to Expect

There is a choice of sedation medication that can be used in Sedation Dentistry so your first visit will be a consult. Dr. Stiehl will sit down with you and review a multitude of factors, such as your medical history, to determine which one is right for you. A baseline reading of your vitals will be taken so we know what is normal for you.

When you come in for your Sedation appointment, you will find that our treatment is performed more comfortably than you might ever have thought possible. You will be drowsy and completely unaware of time passing. For your safety, our specially trained team will continuously monitor your vital signs. You will wake up to a beautiful new smile and well on your way to good dental health.

One of the most popular sedation medications is Triazolam. The historical safety of this and other sedation medications gives us great confidence in using them. Triazolam, itself has been used for many years and is now being used very successful for dental patients. For example, in the year 1996, Triazolam was prescribed over 26 million times. The most common side effects are dry mouth and hiccups. The hiccups usually last only a few moments while you are sedated and the dry mouth wears off with the medication.

Oral Sedation Dentistry is as simple as taking a pill. You too can wake up to a beautiful new smile!
